For many years R. S. Markel was engaged as a professional engineer and scientist until, with the help of his avid book-loving daughter and a curious clutch of feathered and furry characters, he returned to a long-held passion for writing and illustrating, only to soon after be struck down for nearly three years with a devastating illness. He has developed an inspiring presentation titled "The Wisdom of Ducklings" about the unexpected twists and turns we sometimes experience on the journey of life. The story includes the lessons he learned with Lillybeth and Hinsberth's help: to seek out and discover those unique gifts we all possess, to remember to never give up those gifts or take them for granted no matter what challenges life may bring, and to use our gifts and the energy and creativity they provide when put into the service of others to pursue our dreams. Although R. S. Markel is never short on words, the presentation is adorned with penciled and painted illustrations for the more visually inclined.
It is Mr. Markel's wish to share these lessons, especially with those who, as he experienced at a young age, may be drawn away from the discovery and expression of their true gifts. He frequently presents at schools with this dream in mind, but certainly we adults who are still searching may welcome his message about following your dreams, and just might benefit from the wisdom of ducklings.
Please contact us if you are interested to have R. S. Markel speak at your next engagement.
R. S. Markel has invited Mr. Abselard, a dear porcine friend, confidant, and resident of The Farm, to share a few thoughts on a wide smattering of topics gleaned from the pig's venerable tradition of their morning conversations. We do hope you enjoy this new addition.

Welcome. I am a writer and illustrator of novels for young (and young at heart) readers who have a passion for exploring fantastic places, impossible events, and the magic and mysteries of our world. Please feel free to read a bit about my work and peruse the character essays, interviews, and illustrations. I do hope you enjoy this small glimpse into the world of Lillybeth and Hinsberth.
"I am so sorry Mr. Hinsberth. I almost forgot — you are real."
